Ometepe History:

The name Ometepe means two hills in the native nahuatl language. The island measures 276 square kilometers and it houses two majestic volcanoes connected through a small strip of land (from www.vianica.com).

The history of this island is very interesting. Academics explain that the first inhabitants were people from South America in 1500 b.c. They were traveling looking for a better place to live.

Then, the island was used as a refuge for pirates during The Conquista. That is why Ometepe has many interesting things to learn.
